UNLV MEN’S GOLF COMPETING IN HAWAII THIS WEEK

Rebels will play at John A. Burns Intercollegiate in Kauai, Wednesday-Friday

The UNLV men’s golf team will compete in its second tournament of the spring at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in Hawaii, Wednesday-Friday, Feb. 17-19. The event will be held at the Wailua Golf Course (par 72, 6,991 yards) in Lihue, Kauai.

The tournament features a 16-team field: Arizona, BYU, California, Fresno State, Hawaii, Kennesaw State, New Mexico, Northern Colorado, Texas, Texas A&M, UNLV, Utah, UTEP, Washington, Washington State and Virginia.

The 54-hole tournament will consist of 18 holes each day. All three rounds will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. HST.

The lineup for the Rebels this week is expected to be sophomore John Oda, senior AJ McInerney, freshman Harry Hall, sophomore Shintaro Ban and senior Zane Thomas, while sophomore Ben Davis and junior Reford Bobbitt will probably be competing as individuals.

In last year’s tournament, California won by seven shots at 12-under 852, while the Rebels finished third at 4-over. Individually, Cal’s Shotaro Ban earned medalist honors at 8-under 208, two shots better than Oda, who was the tournament’s runner-up.

UNLV dominated its first tournament of the spring with a 28-shot victory at the LMU Invitational, which was played at Lake Las Vegas’ Reflection Bay. Oda and McInerney both tied for the individual title.
