The Smith Center for the Performing Arts 
Announces 2016 Winter/Spring Season

 

The superior lineup includes the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Kristin Chenoweth, Yanni, The Tenors, Engelbert Humperdinck The Cat in the Hat and more

 

The Smith Center for the Performing Arts welcomes world-renowned performers, family programming and returning favorites as part of the 2016 winter/spring season.

 

Tickets for shows in Reynolds Hall will go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 13, and tickets for shows in Cabaret Jazz and Troesh Studio Theater are on sale now available at The Smith Center Box Office, located at 361 Symphony Park Avenue, by phone at 702-749-2000 or 808-326-6868 (TTY) and online at www.TheSmithCenter.com. For preferred seating and special rates for groups of 10 or more, contact 702-749-2348.

 

In addition, single tickets for previously announced Broadway Las Vegas series shows that fall within the 2016 winter/spring  season will also be available starting Nov. 13. These shows include Riverdance (Jan. 26-31), The Bridges of Madison County (Feb. 23-28), A Gentlemen’s Guide to Love & Murder (March 8-13) and Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (April 8-17)

Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Featuring Pinchas Zukerman

In a world crowded with string virtuosos, there is no one quite like Pinchas Zukerman. Violinist, violist, chamber musician, conductor, teacher – for almost a half-century, he has been an evergreen phenomenon in the world of music. Since 2009, Zukerman has held the post of principal guest conductor of London’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, which is thought of as one of the world’s most prestigious symphonic orchestras. With his direction, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will perform a program from musical masters Mozart, Elgar and Tchaikovsky.

 

The Symphonic Rockshow Presents the Best of British Rock

The Symphonic Rockshow returns to Reynolds Hall with a powerful tribute to the biggest British rock bands. The music of Pink Floyd, The Who, Queen and Led Zeppelin will be highlighted in this high-energy rock symphonic. Fronted by singer/producer Brody Dolyniuk, the rock band will join forces once again with a 21-piece orchestra led by Vegas veteran Lon Bronson, and accompanied by violin wizard Nina DiGregorio. The show incorporates stunning visuals, from state-of-the-art lighting and lasers, to video imagery and up-close camera feeds of the group. A dynamic performance any classic rock fan should not miss.

Mariachi Master Jóse Hernàndez and his Sol de Mexico have a biography and history as rich and colorful as mariachi music itself. A proud fifth generation mariachi musician, Hernàndez’ roots trace back to 1879 to the birthplace of mariachi in Jalisco, Mexico. Under the leadership of Hernàndez, Sol de Mexico is one of a few mariachi bands in the world that perform in the classical music circuit.

 

No one else on the mariachi music scene navigates the warm waters of classical, pop, jazz, swing and Broadway tunes with such grace. To listeners weaned on traditional mariachi sounds, Hernàndez’ organic, irreverent renditions are becoming instant classics.

Keola Beamer, one of Hawaii’s premier singer-songwriters, arrangers, composers and guitar masters, helped launch the ’70s statewide revival of slack-key guitar and released the top-selling song Honolulu City Lights.

Henry Kapono, a Grammy-nominated and award-winning singer and songwriter, forged the sound of ’70s Hawaiian music as part of the wildly popular, laidback contemporary Hawaiian music. Together they have continued to lead the way for more than four decades.

Beamer and Kapono will be accompanied on stage by hula master Moanalani Beamer.

In addition to Ronnie Foster, the trio includes Jake Langley on guitar and Jess Gopen on drums. Ronnie Foster is the music director for “Smokey Robinson Presents Human Nature” at the Venetian, but he emerged in the ‘70s as a jazz organist with albums on Blue Note’s label and as a sideman on seven of George Benson’s most popular albums, including Breezin’.

 

Langley held the guitar chair with the great organist Joey de Francesco for five years, so he is not only an excellent musician, but saturated in the style required for an organ trio. Gopen is Foster’s go-to drummer, a veteran Las Vegas performer who has backed such performers as Clint Holmes and works in New York, San Francisco and other cities.

In 1962, while performing in Miami at the age of 18, Alexander caught the attention of Frank Sinatra and Jilly Rizzo who invited him to be the house pianist at Jilly’s nightclub in New York City. Jilly’s was a frequent hangout spot for Sinatra as well as legendary figures including Count Basie, Erroll Garner, Judy Garland, Johnny Carson and Miles Davis.

A Night at Jilly’s recalls the atmosphere of those thrilling times, with world-renowned jazz pianist Alexander performing interpretations of songs by Sinatra and sharing personal memorable anecdotes.

 

The Doo-Wopp Hall of Fame of America Gala Concert

In this hysterical prequel, we go back with Steve from his baby years with his twin sister right up to the present. Audiences will meet Uncle Willie, stuttering cousin Bob, demented cousin Kenny, Steve’s new therapist, cousin Sal (and Sal’s parole officer) and a myriad of astounding characters we know, love and tolerate from our own families; each one brought to life on stage by Steve using his gift for creating voices, dialects and wacky sound effects that only add to the hilarity of each story.
