The South Point Arena and Equestrian Center welcomes cutting horse champions from around the country for an exciting week of equestrian events Tuesday, Aug. 18 through Sunday, Aug. 23. The cutting world’s top riders will compete in the Mercuria World Series of Cutting throughout the week with a special “The Mane Event” championship on Saturday, Aug. 22 at 6 p.m. This event  is free and open to the public.

“The NCHA Mercuria World Series of Cutting is a special competition showcasing the art of the sport through precision and great horsemanship,” said Paula Gaughan, wife of South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa owner Michael Gaughan. “Western cutting is a sport that takes a great amount of skill and talent, and we are adding the Mane Event this weekend to showcase the best of the best, a select group of individuals who truly are the core of this sport.”

Throughout the six-day event, fans will witness some of the best equestrian riders compete on three, four, five and six year-old horses. With 10 to 12 events a day, the week-long competition will offer up to $89,000 in prizes. In addition, the top riders will have an opportunity to compete for a $50,000 purse during the Mercuria finale, the Mane Event. During the finale, a special opening ceremony will invite the competitors, both two and four legged, into the center ring to pay recognition to the top athletes of the evening.

In addition to the excitement in the Arena, guests will have the opportunity to purchase Western-lifestyle items such as jewelry, shirts, boots, hats and more at the Western Gift Show in the Arena’s concourse.
