RUNNIN’ REBELS SIGN POYSER DURING EARLY PERIOD
Point guard from Toronto will join the UNLV men’s basketball program for the 2015-16 season as a freshman
The UNLV men’s basketball program has received a signed national letter of intent from Jalen Poyser, head coach Dave Rice announced.
Poyser, a 6-foot-4-inch, 180-pound point guard from Toronto, Canada, will enroll at UNLV next fall as a freshman.
“We are excited about the addition of Jalen,” Rice said. “He is a versatile lead guard who makes plays for others on both ends of the floor and is a terrific shooter. He is thoroughly committed to team success and brings valuable international experience.”
A senior at Athlete Institute in Mono, Ontario, Poyser also plays for AAU team CIA Bounce. He is the No. 1 ranked player in Canada in the class of 2015 and Rivals lists him as a 4-star recruit and the No. 83 player overall.
He was named all-tournament at the Nike Global event where he averaged 20.5 ppg, ranking fifth in scoring, and he was fourth in scoring at the Adidas Nations (16.8 ppg). He shot 38.5 percent from 3-point range there was ranked as the No. 3 overall prospect that participated. In addition, he shot 40.5 percent from 3-point range in the EYBL.
