Fall into ECO 360° design highlights sustainability efforts of The Venetian and The Palazzo

Diamond Plantscape

The floral and horticulture team at The Venetian and The Palazzo Las Vegas recently received the 2014 Diamond Plantscape Award from the Plantscape Institute of America (PIA), for the 2013 Fall Into ECO 360° installation. The annual awards program recognizes and celebrates excellence in the interiorscape community, including commercial enterprises with in-house horticulture departments and conservatory venues. Interior plantscaping is the practice of designing, installing, and caring for living plants in enclosed environments, including commercial and residential buildings.

The Fall Into ECO 360° installation highlights The Venetian and The Palazzo’s industry-leading sustainability efforts. The feature of the display, a 1934 Hudson car was transformed using succulents, lichen, moss, grapevine, and approximately 5,000 drought resistant plants. The car symbolizes the properties’ alternative transportation programs. Other sustainability efforts, including water reclamation, energy-efficient lighting, and recycling, are highlighted throughout the installation in various ways.

“We are excited to be recognized this way by our peers,” said Dana Beatty, director of floral and horticulture at The Venetian and The Palazzo. “Our vision was to provide a well-designed installation that showcases the resorts’ sustainability efforts and creates an environment for an enhanced guest experience.

A committee of PIA members determines the awards. Entries are judged on their own merit and not against each other, and must achieve specific scores to earn an award. This is the first time that The Venetian and The Palazzo have received recognition from the Plantscape Institute of America for its design.

The visually spectacular and eco-minded fall display fills The Palazzo Waterfall Atrium and Gardens again this year. The picturesque scene, on display September 19 through November 10, honors the Sands ECO360° program, a strategy that was born at The Venetian and The Palazzo which drives the company’s environmental initiatives.
