Charles Bradley and His Extraordinaires
Thursday, Sept. 18
9 p.m.; Doors at 8 p.m.

Soul and R&B singer Charles Bradley didn’t become a recording artist by taking the easy route. Born in Gainesville, Florida in 1948 and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Bradley spent a good part of his childhood living on the streets. A transformational moment came when his sister took him to see James Brown at the Apollo Theater in 1962, and Bradley was struck by the singer’s energy and stage manner. Bradley escaped Brooklyn by joining the Job Corps and then spent years moving around the country and working odd jobs, before he eventually relocated back to Brooklyn to work on his dream of becoming a musician. Bradley began performing his James Brown-inspired routines in local clubs such as Black Velvet, where he attracted a loyal following and eventually captured the attention of Gabriel Roth from Daptone Records. Roth immediately brought the singer into label sessions, releasing a single, “Take It as It Comes,” showcasing what Bradley had to offer as a vocalist. During this time he also met guitarist Thomas Brenneck, who released Bradley’s full album, No Time for Dreaming (2011), on his Daptone Records sub-imprint, Dunham Records. The singer received global acclaim for the album and toured relentlessly to support it. His follow-up, Victim of Love, was released in the spring of 2013.

As dynamic on the dance floor as she is behind the decks, Crykit is one of the most unique and refreshing entities the entertainment industry has to offer. With her intoxicating spunk, unmistakable fiery red hair and flossy sense of fashion, Crykit electrifies any crowd, leaving a lasting impression. Her passion for music and the arts drove Crykit to move from a small farm in Kenosha, Wisconsin to the big city of San Francisco. She quickly established a name for herself as a DJ in the thriving EDM scene as well as a dancer within the prominent B-Boy and B-Girl scene.  After a decade in San Francisco, Crykit moved to Los Angeles where her career continued to flourish. Now residing in Las Vegas, Crykit has studied and is versed in a variety of genres from funk, disco, house, hip-hop, EDM, rock, indie and Top 40.

Vocalist Jennifer Keith is an American classic and a descendent of a line of entertainers. Many have described her as “the Doris Day of today” and “a pinup doll with a voice reminiscent of Peggy Lee meets Patsy Cline.”  Keith began her professional career appearing weekly at the beautiful Madison supper club in Long Beach, California, where she learned the classic vocal stylings of the jazz and pop singers of the 40’s and 50’s. She was heavily influenced by leading vocalists of the greatest era of music including Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald, Keely Smith, Julie London and June Christy. In 2010, the Jennifer Keith Quintet began an engagement every Friday and Saturday night in the Observation Bar aboard the prestigious Queen Mary in Long Beach. This in turn helped “polish” her group and has given her the reputation as the “premiere classic American quintet in Los Angeles.”
