A classic coming of age story brought to life in an original one man show. Written and performed by Chazz Palminteri, A Bronx Tale tells the story of Calogero Anello, a young boy from a working class family who gets involved in the world of organized crime. Calogero’s father is a bus driver who tries to instill working-class family values in his son. As Calogero gets older, the aura and mystique of the mafia, and the charms of Sonny, the local mob boss who befriends Calogero (and ends up becoming a father figure to him), become difficult to resist. As Calogero comes of age, he must struggle with the choice of following his beloved father’s values or submitting to the temptations of the life of organized crime.

Celebrating his 58th year in the music industry, Johnny Mathis is Columbia Records’ longest-running artist. A sublime vocalist whose approach to pop music eclipses passing fads and trends, Mathis has performed songs in an incredible variety of styles and categories — from music composed for stage and film to golden era jazz standards, contemporary pop hits, and holiday music — all of which has assured his reputation as one of the most enduring vocalists in music history. Best-known for his supremely popular hits like “Chances Are,” “It’s Not For Me To Say” and “Misty,” Mathis has recorded more than 80 albums and has had 50 hits on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary Chart. During his extensive career he has had three songs inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, and in 2003 Mathis was given the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. Dreesen takes you to Sinatra’s last performance and the last song he ever sang and then to his last days on earth. Dreesen’s standup comedy is hilarious, his insight keen and storytelling superb and the lessons he learned from the legendary star promises to move the audience!

Danny Wright presents an elegant Mother’s Day piano concert in the elegant Cabaret Jazz, featuring works from Danny’s double album, “A Mother’s Love,” celebrating mothers everywhere with songs like “You Raise Me Up” and “Wind Beneath My Wings.”  The renowned pianist and composer will share the heartwarmingly beautiful real-life inspirations for his original pieces on the album, including “My Son’s Lullaby.”

The Smith Center is delighted to welcome once again one of New York’s most dynamic vocalists, Jane Monheit accompanied by pianist Michael Kanan in a special duo performance. Audiences will be delighted by this traditional jazz piano program with some lovely cabaret moments featuring hits from Monheit’s recordings including her current release “The Heart of the Matter.” This supremely gifted singer is capable of tremendous vocal flights, dips, turns and extensions, but she doesn’t grandstand or hold a note simply to show off. Her goal is to convey a story, and she does so with grace.
