UNLV men’s basketball team looks to even season series with Falcons
After a heartbreaking loss at Boise State (91-90) in overtime last Saturday, the UNLV men’s basketball team bounced back on Wednesday with a 78-70 home win over Colorado State. The Runnin’ Rebels had four players score in double figures against the Rams and were led by Bryce Dejean-Jones’ 19 points. He also had nine rebounds, while Roscoe Smith had a game-high 11 rebounds.
UNLV will now head to Colorado Springs, Colo., to face Air Force on Saturday, March 1 at 2 p.m. MST/1 p.m. PST where it is looking to even the season series. This will be the second meeting in the regular season this year between the Runnin’ Rebels and Falcons as Air Force won the first meeting, 75-68, on Jan. 4 in Las Vegas. UNLV is alone in third place in the Mountain West at 9-6, while Air Force is alone in ninth place at 5-10.
Saturday’s game against the Falcons will be shown on ESPN3 (online only) with Ari Wolfe and Blaine Fowler calling the action. Jon Sandler and Robert Smith will handle the radio call, which may be heard on ESPN Radio 1100/98.9 FM. The Runnin’ Rebels are tied for third in the country in blocked shots per game at 6.6, seventh in the nation in 3-point field-goal defense, limiting their opponents to just 29.0 percent from behind the arc, are 11th in rebounding at 40.2 per game and 13th in effective field-goal percentage defense at 44.0. Khem Birch is third in the country in blocked shots (3.7 bpg), while Roscoe Smith is sixth in the nation in rebounding (11.1 rpg). Smith is fifth in the country in double-doubles (15), while Birch is eighth (14). Dejean-Jones leads the team in scoring with 13.8 ppg.
