RUNNIN’ REBELS AT BOISE STATE SATURDAY

The UNLV men’s basketball team, which had won six out of seven games before falling at home to New Mexico, 68-56, on Wednesday night, will now travel to Boise, Idaho, to face Boise State on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 6:05 p.m./5:05 p.m.
This will be the second meeting in the regular season this year between the Runnin’ Rebels and Broncos. UNLV won the first meeting, 73-69, on Feb. 1 at the Thomas & Mack Center. In that game, the Runnin’ Rebels twice came back from double-digit deficits in the second half and trailed by 11 with about 3½ minutes to play before finishing the game on a 17-2 run. UNLV is alone in third place in the Mountain West at 8-5, while Boise State is alone in fifth. The two are separated by just one game in the standings.
Saturday’s game against the Broncos will be televised by CBS Sports Network with Rich Waltz and Bob Wenzel calling the action. The Runnin’ Rebels are fourth in the country in blocked shots per game at 6.6, sixth in the nation in 3-point field-goal defense, limiting their opponents to just 28.2 percent from behind the arc, are 10th in effective field-goal percentage defense at 43.3 and 13th in rebounding at 40.0 per game. Khem Birch is third in the country in blocked shots (3.7 bpg), while Roscoe Smith is fourth in the nation in rebounding (11.3 rpg). Smith is third in the country in double-doubles (15), while Birch is 10th (13). Bryce Dejean-Jones leads the team in scoring with 13.5 ppg.
