RUNNIN’ REBELS HOST WYOMING SATURDAY

UNLV men’s basketball looking for fourth straight home win at 7 p.m.

The UNLV men’s basketball team, which had won four straight games, five of six and 12 of 15 before its 75-57 loss at Colorado State on Wednesday night, will look to bounce back this Saturday, Feb. 8 as it hosts Wyoming at the Thomas & Mack Center at 7 p.m.

UNLV defeated Utah State (62-42) on Jan. 22 and Fresno State (75-73 in overtime) on Jan. 25, both at home, before winning at San José State (70-46) on Jan. 29 and against Boise State (73-69) in comeback fashion back at home on Feb. 1 before having its streak snapped at CSU. UNLV twice came back from double-digit deficits in the second half against the Broncos and closed the game on a 17-2 run over the final 3:48.

Prior to their recent four-game win streak, the Runnin’ Rebels recorded a split in arguably their toughest road trip of the season: a 76-73 win at New Mexico on Jan. 15 at The Pit, and a 63-52 loss on Jan. 18 at No. 5 San Diego State.

UNLV is still alone in fourth place in the Mountain West standings with a 6-4 mark, while Wyoming is alone in fifth at 5-4. Saturday’s game against the Cowboys will be the only meeting between UNLV and Wyoming during the regular season because of the MW’s unbalanced conference schedule this year. The game will be shown on ESPN3 with Ari Wolfe and Bill Herenda calling the action. Jon Sandler and Robert Smith will handle the radio call, which may be heard on ESPN Radio 1100/98.9 FM. The watch and radio broadcast listen links along with Gametracker are available at UNLVRebels.com.

The Runnin’ Rebels are fourth in the nation in 3-point field-goal defense, limiting their opponents to just 27.4 percent from behind the arc, are seventh in the country in blocked shots per game at 6.6, are eighth in effective field-goal percentage defense at 43.0 and 10th in rebounding at 41.0 per game. Roscoe Smith leads the country in rebounding (11.7 rpg) and is third in double-doubles (14), while Khem Birch is second in the nation in blocked shots (3.70 bpg). Bryce Dejean-Jones leads the team in scoring with 13.8 ppg.
