American Sports Bar Now Open
MGM Grand, the Entertainment Authority in Las Vegas, unveils TAP, a high-energy restaurant and sports bar where guests will enjoy the latest sporting events while surrounded by sports history. Opening today, Thursday, Jan. 30, every seat in the 220-seat restaurant offers a prime view of the biggest games broadcast live on TAP’s 60 HD flat-screen televisions. The menu features American sports bar favorites such as two-fisted sandwiches and specialty sliders as well as the option for guests to create a personalized burger. Meal choices can be complemented with a cold beer from TAP’s extensive selection of bottles and draughts including local and seasonal craft brews.
TAP serves as MGM Grand’s official headquarters for viewing televised sporting events. One-of-a-kind items collected from events held in Las Vegas, known for hosting many of the world’s biggest sporting events, are displayed throughout the space. TAP is open daily for lunch and dinner.
“With its massive TVs and comfortable, fun atmosphere, TAP is the ultimate sports lover’s paradise for watching every event,” said MGM Grand president and COO Scott Sibella. “Unique collector’s items from great moments in Las Vegas sports history line the walls creating a fully immersive sports experience.”
Food
TAP features classic and contemporary American sports bar food bound to fill stomachs between plays. Menu highlights include:
- ‘Beer Can’ Chicken, beer-brined and roasted chicken served with Georgia mustard sauce, Kentucky-style slaw and TAP’s signature Fat Fries with grey sea salt and spiced ketchup;
- Pretzel & Cheese, an old school sourdough pretzel served warm alongside a creamy cheddar cheese dip spiked with horseradish for a zesty kick;
- South-Side Street Dog, a house-made all pork, jalapeño and cheese-stuffed hot dog loaded with pickle spears, sport peppers, red onion relish and brown mustard served on a Chicago-style poppy seed bun;
- Little Phillys, slider-sized authentic Philadelphia cheese steak sandwiches made with shaved rib-eye, cheese “whiz,” and caramelized onions on Italian hoagie rolls, just like they’re done in Philly;
- Mini Mug Tasters, a dessert sampler featuring half-portions of chocolate, peanut butter and black forest cakes served in miniature beer mugs for guests who can’t choose just one.
Beverages
A meal and a game wouldn’t be complete without an ice cold beverage to fuel energized fans. TAP’s selection of draught and bottled beers, as well as its array of beer cocktails, is sure to keep fans in positive spirits throughout the game. Offerings include:
Beer: TAP’s draught handles alternate seasonally to feature the best local and national craft brews in addition to well-known favorites. A selection of handcrafted bottled beers round out the beer menu. Highlights include:
- Gulden Draak Quad 9000, a complex Belgian beer with a deep amber color and notes of pear, apple and clove served in a traditional beer goblet;
- Tenaya Creek Hop Ride, a locally brewed IPA that features a well-balanced combination of bitterness and floral notes achieved through a process called dry-hopping;
- Chimay Triple, a traditional Belgian Trappist beer that is golden in color and has notes of grape, raisins and apple served in a beer goblet for an authentic feel.
Cocktails: TAP’s cocktail program features beer cocktails artfully blended with the freshest ingredients. Beer cocktails include:
- Framboise Martini, a delicate blend of Absolut Raspberri, crème de cassis and house-made lemon sour topped off with the crisp Lindeman’s Framboise, a fruit forward beer with distinct raspberry notes;
- Belgian Mojito, a twist on the refreshing classic made with Bacardi Superior rum, fresh mint, hand-pressed lime juice and Stella Artois;
- Dark & Stormy, TAP’s version of this well-known beer concoction with Gosling’s Black Seal rum, hand-pressed lime juice and Gosling’s Ginger Beer, the only beer created specifically for use in Dark & Stormy cocktails.
Sports Memorabilia
If the items within the memorabilia collection hanging throughout TAP could talk, they’d have amazing stories to tell. Each was a part of an iconic sporting event that took place in Las Vegas, making each piece a source of local pride. Highlights include:
- UFC: Hanging in an encased frame within the restaurant are the gloves and shorts worn by former Lightweight Champion Chuck Liddell during his victory against Tito Ortiz at UFC 66 at MGM Grand’s Grand Garden arena on Dec. 30, 2006.
- Boxing: After Oscar De La Hoya defeated Julio Cesar Chavez in their initial meeting in 1996, Chavez repeatedly questioned the validity of De La Hoya’s victory. The rematch billed as “The Retribution,” was held at MGM Grand on Sept. 8, 1998 and De La Hoya again came out victorious. A framed piece of the ring mat and boxing glove from this notable event will hang within the restaurant.
- NHL Hockey: The 2012-2013 Stanley Cup Champion LA Kings make an annual pre-season visit to the Grand Garden Arena for Frozen Fury, a heated doubleheader in which the Kings take on two NHL rivals. Members of the 2012-2013 championship team signed a hockey stick that will be displayed.
- NBA Basketball: A jersey signed by NBA great Magic Johnson, who played 13 seasons as point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers, will be featured within TAP. MGM Grand hosts Lakers games annually.
