UNLV WOMEN’S BASKETBALL HOSTS SAN DIEGO STATE ON SATURDAY NIGHT
Lady Rebels comes into the game alone in third place in the Mountain West
Coming off an impressive 22-point win over New Mexico on Wednesday night, the UNLV women’s basketball team is looking to extend its win streak to four games when it hosts the San Diego State Aztecs on Saturday at 7 pm in the Cox Pavilion. Prior to the game there will be a free basketball clinic for girls and boys in grades 2-8, starting at 5 pm. Registration information can be found at UNLVRebels.com.
UNLV’s three-game win streak is currently the longest in the conference, while the next longest of two games belongs to SDSU. This is also the longest win streak for the Lady Rebels since ending the 2011-12 regular season with five straight wins. In order to keep the streak alive however, UNLV will have to break a six-game losing streak to the Aztecs, as its’ last win in the series came on Feb. 13, 2010. This is a different San Diego State team then from the past few seasons, however, as the Aztecs lost four senior starters and their coach from last year’s regular-season championship squad. The team has struggled thus far, bringing in a 5-9 mark, though that includes a 70-69 win at preseason favorite Fresno State this past Wednesday.
A key to the game could be in the turnover department. UNLV forces the most in the conference, 23.8 per game by opponents in league play, and has a league-high 14.3 steals per game in MW games. SDSU meanwhile has the second-highest turnover rate in the MW (19.6 pg) in league action.
There will be a live webcast of the game, thanks to the UNLV-TV student production group, that will be featured on the Mountain West Network at UNLVRebels.com. while the UNLV radio broadcast, featuring the call from Adam Candee, is available on KSHP 1400 AM and also off a link at UNLVRebels.com.
