RISE ‘N’ SHINE ON SATURDAY WITH UNLV WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Fans will get their first chance to see the 2013-14 Lady Rebels with a morning event in the Mendenhall Center

This Saturday morning at 11 am, the UNLV women’s basketball team is inviting fans to their “Rise ‘N’ Shine fan event at the Mendenhall Center, which is free to the public.

The annual event is the first chance for fans to get a glimpse of the new team in action. That includes the first look at freshmen Jazmyne Bartee and Diamond Major, as well as sophomore transfer Aley Rohde. There will be an open Q&A session as well as a chance for fans to take pictures and get autographs from the players and coaches at the conclusion of the event.

“This is always a fun event for both our fans and the team,” said UNLV women’s basketball head coach Kathy Olivier. “It was a great event last year, and it’s something we always look forward to, especially the chance to connect our players and staff with our fans and the Las Vegas community.”

The Lady Rebels, coming off a rebuilding season in which they still tied for fourth in the Mountain West with an 8-8 league mark, will be one of the most experienced teams in the conference this season. UNLV will feature on its roster this year seven players that have been full-time starters in their career. That includes the return of senior point guard and Las Vegas native Mia Bell, as well as the 2012-13 MW Freshman of the Year, Réjane Vérin.

Highlights of the 2013-14 Lady Rebel slate include four games in the Thomas & Mack Center in the month of November, two of those coming against former MW rivals BYU (Nov. 12) and Utah (Nov. 26). The season starts on Nov. 8 with another game in the TMC, against Santa Clara, while coming to the team’s annual Lady Rebel Round-Up tournament on Thanksgiving weekend is Charlotte, Cincinnati and Fordham. The final non-conference action will also be at home, in the Duel In The Desert, which will see UNLV take on Clemson (Dec. 19), Oregon State (Dec. 20), and Creighton (Dec. 21). The MW season starts for UNLV at home on Jan. 1 against Fresno State.
