Well known internist, addiction specialist and television host, Dr. Drew Pinsky revealed that he has been battling prostate cancer for the past two years. He now considers himself cancer-free after undergoing a radical robotic prostatectomy and credits his wife for urging him to get checked adding that the diagnosis was difficult for her as well.
September is National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and in recognition, Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) is offering important information on cancer prevention, early detection and treatment options. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths (after skin cancer) among men in the United States. According to the American Cancer Society, approximately 1,900 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in Nevada this year. Prostate cancer is relatively rare in men under 40, but the chance of being diagnosed rises significantly after age 50 and roughly two-thirds of prostate cancers are found in men over the age of 65.
