TELEVISION PERSONALITY ROSS MATHEWS TO RECEIVE QMMUNITY ADVOCATE AWARD AT THE CENTER’S ANNUAL HONORARIUM OCT. 19

Adding to The Center’s most historic year yet, the premier LGBTQ organization in Nevada will present television personality, comedian and author Ross Mathews with the first-ever Qmmunity Advocate Award at the annual Honorarium on Oct. 19 at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

“Ross has been an inspiration and a role model to countless people in the LGBTQ community,” said Bob Elkins, CEO of The Center.  “He’s heavily involved with the Human Rights Campaign, has worked at many Pride festivals around the country, and his unapologetic attitude not only put him at the forefront of LGBTQ comedians and television personalities, but shows younger generations that they don’t need to be afraid of who they were born to be.”

Considering The Center’s 20th anniversary occurs just four days before the Honorarium, this year’s event will serve as a massive celebration; a time to commemorate the past achievements, live in the present moment and look forward to future success.  After opening its $4 million Robert L. Forbuss Building in April, hiring a new CEO, seeing a 700 percent increase in youth drop-in attendance, and committing to rapidly and significantly growing all programs and services, Mathews’ involvement is just the most recent testament to how The Center is evolving as one of the community’s most valued resources.

Since 2001, Mathews has traveled the world and established himself as one of the most in-demand television correspondents and hosts in the pop-culture arena today.  Following his television debut as a correspondent for “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” Mathews has been hard at work being a regular fixture on “Chelsea Lately,” “E! News,” E! Network’s live red carpet awards show coverage, along with many other projects.  His first book, “Man Up: Tales of My Delusional Self-Confidence,” was released in May 2013 and quickly became a national bestseller.  The book covers topics from his small town life and big city adventures, to overcoming adversity, to being a super fan and now friend of many of the world’s biggest celebrities and much more.

On Sept. 6, 2013, Mathews premiered his own E! talk show, “Hello Ross.”  Creating a forum for pop culture fans to interact, share their opinions and come face to face with their favorite celebrities, “Hello Ross” heralds a new era of television.

Mathews will be in attendance at the Honorarium, joining The Center’s three previously announced honorees including: Barbara Molasky (Person of the Year); Ron Quinn (Volunteer of the Year); and UFC (Corporation of the Year).
