Stratosphere’s David Perrico – Pop Evolution Performing
for Students at Las Vegas Academy
Almost 800 Las Vegas Academy of the Arts (LVA) high school students will receive a private concert from Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower trumpeter, conductor and composer David Perrico and his 18-piece band Pop Evolution on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at 1 p.m. in the Lowden Theater on the LVA campus.
The concert is the result of an ongoing partnership between Stratosphere and LVA, a magnet public high school in the Clark County School District dedicated to the performing and visual arts. Since May, one half of all door proceeds from David Perrico – Pop Evolution performances in the Stratosphere Theater have been donated to LVA.
Perrico, who has received national awards for his original jazz and symphony orchestra compositions, will instruct students on song arranging with the band’s music selection, providing a real-time lesson in music arranging and live performance.
“I love what I do and I can’t wait to help illustrate to musically talented high school students how I work through the process of song arranging,” said David Perrico. “It’s a great opportunity for them to see the entire big band working together.”
Perrico and band members will work with LVA students in smaller classes and workshops throughout the year.
“The insight David Perrico – Pop Evolution provides on song arranging is the kind of experience that is so valuable to students who strive for a career in music,” said Scott Walker, Las Vegas Academy of the Arts Principal. “We’re so pleased the partnership with the Stratosphere is offering so many benefits for our promising students.”
David Perrico – Pop Evolution performs the first and third Tuesday at the Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower, transforming popular songs from all genres by infusing them with big band sound and the vitality that can only come from a stage packed with professional musicians.
The Stratosphere’s partnership with LVA began last year when Stratosphere headliner Frankie Moreno, and his song writing brothers, held a series of workshops with LVA students. Many students got the opportunity to perform during Frankie Moreno’s shows in the Stratosphere Theater during the summer. Moreno will also continue to work with LVA students.
Additionally, cast and crew from the Stratosphere’s PIN UP™ starring Claire Sinclair, plan to work with students in the coming year in the areas of dance, show production, costuming, and set design.
“The interest and excitement of LVA students is what makes the partnership between LVA and the Stratosphere so worthwhile,” said Paul Hobson Vice President, General Manager of the Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower. “We hope to see our association grow in the future.”
David Perrico is one of Las Vegas’ most in-demand musicians, with the Las Vegas Review-Journal naming David Perrico – Pop Evolution “Best of Las Vegas 2013” for Lounge Performer or Tribute Act. Perrico currently serves as music director/trumpeter for Stratosphere’s PIN UP™ and is an adjunct faculty member for UNLV’s jazz studies program. He has 11 CD and four DVD recordings to his credit.
