UNLV ADDS JON MACCOLL TO MEN’S AND WOMEN’S SWIMMING AND DIVING STAFF

Jonathan Maccoll has been named assistant coach/recruiting coordinator for the UNLV men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams, UNLV head coach Jim Reitz announced on Monday.

“We are extremely excited to have a coach of Jon’s caliber join our staff here at UNLV,” said Reitz. “As one of the country’s top recruiters, he will lead our efforts to bring in top quality men and women who can propel our team upward in the Division I national ranking charts.”

Maccoll will serve as the Rebels’ recruiting coordinator as well as coaching one of the stroke groups. He joins the Rebel staff after spending the past two seasons as assistant coach and head recruiting coordinator for Queens University of Charlotte. He was instrumental in raising the club from a bronze level club to a silver medal club. Under his leadership at the 2010 Junior Nationals, STAR’s women’s team placed seventh including top-eight finishes in the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 free relay. In addition to his roles at STAR he served as head coach for the North Carolina Select Camp. Maccoll was also a volunteer assistant with Greensboro College’s swim teams, helping The Pride with recruiting while assisting with off-deck operations at swim meets.

Maccoll came to STAR from the CATS Aquatics Club in Libertyville, Ill. where he served as a senior group coach, and Yakima Athletic Club in Yakima, Wash.. He attended both Ashland University and Slippery Rock University, receiving a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Slippery Rock in 2007.
