Champions were crowned today at New York-New York Hotel & Casino in the Nevada qualifying competition for the famed Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Contest held annually on July 4.

Jeff “The Beast Man” Butler and Miki Sudo were named Nevada Hot Dog Eating Champions. During the 10-minute competition, Butler ate 31 ½ hot dogs while Sudo took top female honors, finishing 40 hot dogs.

“This event proves that New York-New York Hotel & Casino remains a hot bed of competitive eating and a destination for top Major League Eaters from around the nation,” said Major League Eating Chairman George Shea. “Nevada will be well represented on July 4 at Coney Island.”

In the local heroes competition, Nellis Air Force Base defeated Clark County Fire Department by devouring 31 hot dogs and winning $1,000 for the Air Force Assistance Fund.

The Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest has occurred each July 4 in Coney Island, N.Y. since 1916, the year Nathan Handwerker opened the legendary restaurant.

Major League Eating, the governing body of all stomach-centric sports, sanctions the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Circuit and ensures the contests are judged professionally and safety standards are upheld at each event.
