The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, in partnership with Art Production Fund, announce artist-in-residence Todd DiCiurcio. While in P3Studio, DiCiurcio will transform the space into a working studio where he will draw performances live while they happen. Musicians, performers and guests will be able to sign up for an opportunity to perform a 1 hour set in P3Studio while DiCiurcio captures them on paper using a range of media. Each performer will have free reign to do whatever they please with their time slot and guests will be encouraged to experience each set. These visual recordings will be immediately displayed in P3Studio as they are finished. DiCiurcio’s process will involve the use of assemblage in order to build upon the environmental compositions as they are drawn, and later implemented. He will be inviting special guests to attend and perform from underground to well known acts, including The Men and BadBad. DiCiurcio’s objective is to depict live performances to showcase a dialogue between the visual work and the music, the outcome of which will expose the politics and progress of the current underground showcase.

New York based artist Todd DiCiurcio creates mixed media drawings that grasp the electric experience of the “live” musical performance. For over a decade as both an artist and a witness, he chose to depict the immediacy of modern culture by rendering the live performances of contemporary musicians through ink and graphite. His drawings are as spontaneous as the performances themselves, created in one continuous line. By rendering in visual language the temporality of music, DiCiurcio creates significant and poignantly energetic aesthetic compositions. His unchained use of lines produces spontaneous but at the same time highly elaborated images.

Throughout his career, DiCiurcio has documented numerous bands, including: Guided by Voices, Jane’s Addiction, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Bon Jovi, Kings of Leon, Dinosaur Jr., Bob Mould, Broken Social Scene, Exitmusic, Wyclef Jean, The English Beat, Grizzly Bear, The Killers, Angus Stone, MT Warning, The Rolling Stones, New Order, Cat Power, Guster and many others. Through live drawings that are dynamically rendered during the performance, his work grasps the spontaneity and progressive quality of events as they unfold.

The artist-in-residence program at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas represents one component of its larger art program, in which artists create projects that are interactive and participatory, giving guests the opportunity to connect at an authentic and personal level. Developed and curated in partnership with Art Production Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated to producing ambitious public art projects, it strives to reach new audiences and expand awareness through contemporary art.
