Students Compete to “Bee” the Nevada State Champion
Regional Champs Face Off Saturday, March 2nd at Summerlin Library
Forty-one students will try to spell their way to the top Saturday morning, March 2nd at the Nevada State Spelling Bee sponsored by the Las Vegas Review Journal. The sixth, seventh and eighth graders are winners of regional spelling competitions and will take center stage at the Summerlin Library.
The champion will go on to represent the Silver State in June at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C.
The event is always tension-filled as students try to spell words that most adults have never even heard or seen. For the seventh straight year, 10e Media President and former local news anchor Kendall Tenney will serve as moderator.
The competition begins at 10 a.m. and the champion is usually crowned after a little more than three hours of competition.
