UNLV ATHLETICS HAS 43 RECOGNIZED FOR ACADEMICS
Mountain West announces its academic teams for fall 2012
UNLV had a total of 43 student-athletes named to the Fall 2012 Academic All-Mountain West Team, the league announced Thursday. The Rebels’ 43 fall representatives are the most recognized by the conference since the fall of 2008 and ties for second most in school history. UNLV has had at least 35 fall representatives for seven consecutive years.
The football team led the way with 18 honorees, which is the second most in program history. The school ranked second in the conference for most football players on the list behind only Boise State.
The women’s soccer team followed closely behind with 15 of its own. That number broke a previous record of 14 student-athletes recognized in 2005 and then matched in 2010.
The volleyball and cross country squads had four and six student-athletes named to the team, respectively. They round out the quartet of sports that participate in the MW and are sponsored by UNLV in the fall academic period.
To be eligible for selection to the Academic All-MW Team, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the school, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their team.
