Glittering Lights at Las Vegas Motor Speedway to Participate in
Speedway Children’s Charities Annual Grant Distribution Event
Local Holiday Spectacular continues to raise money for children’s charities
Glittering Lights, the holiday drive-through spectacular, will participate in the Las Vegas Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities grant distribution and tree lighting ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 13 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. This year the annual ceremony will award $199,000 to 60 local charities, an increase of 13 from last year. Each charity will also have its own tree and lighted name display dedicated to them in the newly created Avenue of Trees section at Glittering Lights.
Throughout the holiday season, Glittering Lights donates a portion of ticket sales to Speedway Children’s Charities and raised $27,300 for the organization last year. Speedway Children’s Charities also raised funds through efforts including the chapter’s 10th annual golf tournament, the Cards for Kids Texas Hold ’em Poker Tournament at the Stratosphere Casino Hotel & Tower and Laps for Charity at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Children representing each charity are invited to attend the annual grant distribution event in the media center. This event will feature a child-friendly holiday buffet, musical performances, holiday games and gifts from Santa Claus, who will arrive aboard a Richard Petty Driving Experience racecar. Tram rides will then be available to guide guests through the Glittering Lights holiday spectacular to view the Avenue of Trees.
Goodwill of Southern Nevada provides $2 off admission with a donation of gently used items at any of the 30+ sites located in Southern Nevada or at the entrance of Glittering Lights.
Glittering Lights is open nightly through Jan. 6, 2013, Monday through Thursday from 5:30-9 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 5:30-10 p.m.
