Fremont Street Experience in conjunction with the Nevada Barbecue Association will host the first-ever Downtown Throwdown Barbecue Championships. On Friday, Dec. 7 starting at 6 p.m. cooks will compete in the Chili Cook-Off and on Saturday, Dec. 8 starting at noon the competition will feature a Barbecue Cook-Off. The public is invited to enjoy delicious samples of chili, ribs, chicken, brisket and pork during the 2-day event as guests will be able to purchase the food from some of the best cowboy cooks around.

Guests will have the power to determine the “People’s Choice” winner by purchasing 2 oz. sampling cups for $1 each. Every 10 samples purchased earns 1 ticket to vote for the People’s Choice. Additional private judging will be held to award first, second and third place in various categories. The awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, at 5 p.m. on the 3rd Street Stage with Crown Royal rodeo riders Wes Silcox (bull rider) and Tildon Hooper (bareback rider) handing out the winning trophies. They will also be signing autographs and taking photos with fans from 4 – 6 p.m.

“It is always a great time when the National Finals Rodeo comes to town. To celebrate this year, Fremont Street Experience is firing up the grills with the addition of a good ol’ fashioned chili and barbecue Throwdown. Now, along with the 12 Days of Country’s free nightly entertainment, we are offering delicious cowboy fare. We encourage everyone to come out and participate and vote for their favorite with their palate,” said Jeff Victor, president at Fremont Street Experience.

The 26th Annual Downtown Hoedown begins 12 Days of Country on Fremont Street Experience with free shows from top country music talents Dustin Lynch, Uncle Kracker, Jana Kramer and Clay Walker on Dec. 5. Additional nightly free concerts will be featured through Dec. 16 with Country Superstars, Jimmy Ray’s Johnny Cash Tribute, Texas/Red Dirt Country Artist Phil Hamilton, Jason Sturgeon, Matt Stillwell, Sam Riddle and Fairchild.
