LADY REBELS FACE CREIGHTON IN NCAA FIRST ROUND

No. 10-seed UNLV meets 7-seed Creighton in Los Angeles on Saturday, March 23

The Lady Rebels are the No. 10 seed in the Los Angeles/UCLA Region and will play 7-seed Creighton in the NCAA Championship First Round on Saturday, March 23 at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles, California. This is the highest seeding since 1994 when UNLV marked a 10-seed.

UNLV (30-2) learned its tournament destination and opponent during the NCAA Women’s Basketball Selection Show special on ESPN on Sunday evening. The squad and more than 200 fans gathered inside the Strip View Pavilion at the Thomas & Mack Center to watch the bracket reveal.

The Lady Rebels earned the Mountain West Conference’s automatic bid for the third straight season, which is the first time in conference and UNLV history. This will be the third consecutive NCAA Tournament bid for the first time since the last three straight between 1989 and 1991. Last year, the then-11-seed Lady Rebels played 6-seed Michigan and fell 71-59 in Baton Rouge.

UNLV is 3-2 all-time against Creighton. The last meeting happened on Dec. 20, 2014, when the Lady Rebels hosted the Blue Jays and fell 66-56. UNLV and Creighton last met in the 2004 WNIT Championship game, when ultimately the Blue Jays would walk away with the title after a 73-52 win.

The Lady Rebels are 2-6 in the NCAA Tournament’s first round and 3-10 overall.

Host and No. 2-seed UCLA plays 15-seed California Baptist in the site’s other first-round matchup.
