ATOMIC MUSEUM INVITES “FALLOUT: NEW VEGAS” FANS TO MOJAVE WASTELAND BUS TOUR, SATURDAY, NOV. 16
Tour Includes Stops at Pioneer Saloon, Atomic Museum, Old Mormon Fort
The Atomic Museum invites “Fallout: New Vegas” fans and history enthusiasts alike to the upcoming Mojave Wasteland Bus Tour on Saturday, Nov. 16. Partnering with the “Fallout: New Vegas” Fan Celebration, this one-of-a-kind tour offers attendees the opportunity to explore the video game’s post-apocalyptic society while delving into the real-world history of the Atomic Age.
The adventure will begin at the historic Pioneer Saloon located at 310 West Spring Street, Goodsprings, NV 89019, where boarding takes place at 8:30 a.m. The bus will depart promptly at 8:40 a.m., with the first stop at the Atomic Museum in Las Vegas. Attendees will receive the chance to explore the museum’s extensive collection of artifacts, including a decommissioned Mark III “Fatman” atomic bomb casing, a 9-megaton B-53 thermonuclear device and radioactive trinitite. Visitors can also check out Ford’s atomic-powered concept car, the Nucleon, and snap a selfie with Robby, the fission-powered robot. The Ground Zero Theater offers a simulated atomic test experience, adding an explosive touch to the visit.
The museum’s exhibits continue with a deep dive into Civil Defense, featuring Geiger counters, Doom Town mannequins and essential fallout shelter items. The tour culminates with an exploration of the 928 nuclear tests conducted at the Nevada Test Site and their impact on the development of Las Vegas, known as the Atomic City. Guests can wrap up their museum visit by grabbing an ice-cold Nuka-Cola from the gift shop.
Next, the tour will head to the Old Mormon Fort, the oldest building in New Vegas and the fictional headquarters of the Followers of the Apocalypse in “Fallout: New Vegas.” Here, participants can take a self-guided tour, search for the coveted Snow Globe in the Guardhouse (a rare opportunity usually closed to the public) and explore areas such as the Humanitarian Tent and the Followers Lab Coat. Guests can also enter a raffle to win a Followers of the Apocalypse Flag, which will be flown at the Old Mormon Fort that day.
The tour concludes with a Fallout-themed lunch featuring Fallout dogs and beverages before returning to the Pioneer Saloon for a 1 p.m. arrival.
General admission for the “Fallout: New Vegas” Mojave Wasteland Bus Tour is $80 per person, plus taxes and fees. Admission fees to the Atomic Museum and Old Mormon Fort are included. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so fans shouldn’t miss their chance to experience this very “S.P.E.C.I.A.L.” tour. For more information or to purchase tickets, click here.
ABOUT THE OLD MORMON FORT
Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort, the first permanent, non-native settlement in the Las Vegas Valley, features the historic remains of an adobe fort built by Mormon missionaries along a spring-fed creek in 1855. The creek, the only free-flowing water for miles around, provided irrigation for fields and orchards and the 22,000 square foot outpost served as a way station for travelers. Today the park is located in what is now Downtown Las Vegas. In addition to the fort, which contains a multitude of historic artifacts, a Visitor Center contains exhibits and photos that illustrate the history of the site.
