The 2012 Mayors Prayer Breakfast, a community-building event, encourages unity, diversity and developing leadership skills for Las Vegas youth, and will take place at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15 at Texas Station Gambling Hall & Hotel. The event includes Mayor’s reading ecumenical prayers, an interfaith candle lighting ceremony and a keynote speech by Dwight D. Jones, Superintendent of Schools, Clark County School District.

Following the breakfast, students in attendance will have the opportunity to ask questions of local mayors, Clark County School District Superintendent Dwight D. Jones and more, in a town hall meeting format. Gard Jameson, chairman of the Interfaith Council and co-founder of Volunteers in Medicine, will moderate this portion of the event. This year’s breakfast anticipates more than 700 attendees including more than 350 students from various high schools across the city.

“United Way of Southern Nevada and our volunteers are dedicated to participating in the annual Mayors Prayer Breakfast with engaged partners that encourage children’s academic success,” said Cass Palmer, president and CEO of United Way of Southern Nevada. “This annual event was started in some respects to show young students the value of giving back and being active in the community.”
