Donation Drive to collect wish list items for 500 military care packages

Inspirada, the fully planned community in Henderson, Liberty High School and City of Henderson have partnered with the Douglas J. Green Memorial Foundation (DJGMF) for

Its 10th Annual Munchies 4 the Military, a donation drive and volunteer event.

The Douglas J. Green Memorial Foundation, a 501(c) nonprofit, was founded by Suni Chabrow after her son, SPC Douglas J. Green, was killed in action on August 28, 2011, during his second tour in Afghanistan.

The Foundation honors his memory by providing comfort and support to service members by sending thoughtful and useful care packages during their deployment.

From March 15 through April 15, a month-long Munchies 4 the Military donation drive will be held asking Southern Nevada residents to donate wish list items to fill the DJGMF care packages.  Wish list items include individually wrapped breakfast items, snack foods, beef jerky, nuts, dried fruit, trail mix, chips, granola bars, gum, soup, protein bars, cookies, candy, and men’s and women’s hygiene and baby wipes.  This year’s Munchies 4 the Military goal is to send 500 care packages to active-duty service members.

Wish list donations can be dropped off at any of the 25 Henderson locations including Inspirada new home sales centers of Gardens, Groves, Landings and Reserves collections by KB Home and Amiata collection by Toll Brothers, the Inspirada Community Association in Solista Park, West Henderson Library, Ellis Elementary School, Del Webb Middle School, Liberty High School, Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon campus, City of Henderson City Hall and recreations centers, Realty One Group St. Rose office, and Berkshire Hathaway Services NV St. Rose office.

On Saturday, April 20, community volunteers and students from Liberty High School will box up wish list donations to assemble care packages that will be sent to military service members and families deployed overseas.

Community members can also contribute by making monetary donations, which will help offset the cost of postage – approximately $20 per box. This year, the goal is to assemble 500 care packages.
