Free workshops for kids during Summer Camp Open House this Friday and Saturday

Local learning facility Engineering For Kids announces new classes for their upcoming summer camps that will take young aspiring engineers to new heights. Local husband and wife team Leo and Elise Silva have backgrounds in education and automotive and are dedicated to teaching young kids the importance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Registration is now open for specialty week-long summer camps which begin Monday, May 27 and run through Friday, Aug. 9. Kids are welcome to explore the many projects offered, with Pre-K, junior and apprentice level camps available for kids ages four through 14. Engineering For Kids staff each class with a low student-to-teacher ratio to ensure that students experience an optimal learning environment.

New to the summer camps, the Drone and Hovercraft Programming Camp will blow campers away with brand new large drones that can quickly be transformed between hovercraft and aviation mode to drift around camper-designed obstacle courses and master the skills in customized and programmed flight contests, all while gaining real-world knowledge of how drones are already shaping the future.

The Magician’s Workshop is a class for the curious where students will explore the science behind illusions and magic and look at how unexplained phenomena can now be explained by modern discoveries and technology. Warning – students will also walk away with a few tricks up their sleeve to take home and try.

With app design taking the world by storm, App Development with BitsBox is a unique experience where students will get to code, test and create their own apps in real-time, using an easy-to-understand format. At the end of the workshop, students will get to save their apps on their own devices for play anywhere, anytime.

Aspiring writers, artists, designers and game developers will learn how to turn their interactive stories and physical creations into a digital video game in Creative Storytelling through Game Design. Using a special game board and blocks to design characters, levels and other art, they can capture their creations and are able to edit and customize their final game.

Summer camp classes are from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and typically last one week, with three-hour sessions where campers may register for morning, afternoon or both. In addition to new classes, Engineering For Kids also offers summer camps at Battle Blast Laser Tag and at Pinecrest Cadence in Henderson, with even more and unique classes offered. An easy payment plan is available with no extra fee or interest. Camps are available for kids ages four to 14, with material designed specifically for Pre-K, early elementary, upper elementary, as well as middle school students. Full scholarships are available, but not guaranteed. For a full list of classes, specific times, locations, and prices call 702-660-9036 or visit www.engineeringforkids.com/las-vegas-west.
