THE UNDERGROUND AT THE MOB MUSEUM ANNOUNCES NEW MENU ITEMS INSPIRED BY PROHIBITION ERA, JULY PROMOTIONS, SILVER MEDAL
The Underground speakeasy and distillery at The Mob Museum, the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, unveils an enticing array of new menu items paying homage to the vibrant history of the Prohibition era. Available beginning on Friday, July 5, visitors can soon savor a new variety of expertly crafted cocktails and tempting dishes capturing the essence of the Roaring Twenties. These new offerings join the Museum’s award-winning moonshine collection, including The Fuzz Moonshine which recently received a Silver Medal at the California Craft Spirits Competition. In addition, The Underground announces its array of July promotions, including a special for National Tequila Day and weekly live music.
NEW ITEMS JOINING THE UNDERGROUND’S MENU INCLUDE:
Cocktails
- Blind Tiger ($16) – A nickname for establishments that sold illegal liquor during Prohibition, this refreshing and easy to drink cocktail is crafted with gin, passionfruit, lemon, amaro, yuzu, lime and soda.
- Ave del Paraíso ($16) – Birds-of-paradise, a species nearly decimated because of plume hunting, resulted in conservation efforts debuting in the early 1920s. Named in honor of the species, the Ave del Paraíso blends rum, Campari, amaro and lime for a tropical-inspired and spirit-forward sip.
- The Temptress ($16) – By the mid-1920s, nearly 50 million people were going to the movies every week. After Greta Garbo’s American film debut in “Torrent,” she landed her next big role in 1926’s hit film “The Temptress.” This blend of papaya-infused rye, mango, lemon and orange is an excellent warm weather cocktail.
- Oaxaca Heat ($15) – Without a 1920s law prohibiting the production, sale or transportation of alcohol in Mexico, Mexican distillers quickly realized they could fulfill a major marketplace gap in the United States. Inspired by those distillers, the Oaxaca Heat is crafted with mezcal, mango, chile and lime.
- Jade Deco ($16) – Art Deco was just as much a popular motif for jewelry during the era and was regularly styled with semi-precious stones like jade. Named for its brightly colored green hue, this drink blends tequila, Midori, Green Chartreuse, lime, yuzu and meringue.

- Shrimp Cocktail with cocktail sauce ($12) – The origins of cocktail sauce are difficult to trace, but its popularity skyrocketed in the 1920s as it appeared in cookbooks such as the 1926 collection “Mrs. Allen on Cooking, Menus, Service.” This Underground’s take features a house-made cocktail sauce and four U10-15 shrimp.
- Colcannon Crisps ($16) – A take on traditional Colcannon, a dish brought to the U.S by Irish immigrants and prepared as mashed potatoes with cabbage, this modern gastropub version is kettle chips topped with Irish cheddar, bacon lardons, green onions, sour cream and pickled cabbage.
- Savory Hand Pie Trio ($15) – Three baked pastries stuffed with shepherd’s pie, chicken pot pie and mushroom ragu. Pasty, hand pie, empanada – nearly every culture has a favorite savory, filled pastry, and renditions have been exchanged over time as people migrated around the world.
Desserts
- Pineapple Upside Down Cake ($12) – A 1925 recipe contest held by the Hawaiian Pineapple Company named this now-beloved dessert its winner, and the United States was introduced to the pineapple upside down cake. The Underground’s version happens to be vegan and is served with dairy-free cherry whipped cream.

Description: It started with a daisy. After all, that is what margarita means in Spanish. Originally made with brandy before featuring tequila, many cocktail aficionados believe the citrusy tequila daisy is the precursor to the modern margarita. On National Tequila Day, visitors can enjoy a tequila daisy, made with tequila reposado, lemon juice, house-made grenadine, simple syrup and egg white.
